Peggy and New Democrats support PBO in fight for data on cuts
Learn more about Peggy's work on government transparency below!
The Conservative government's secrecy over spending cuts included in its Trojan Horse Budget has extended not only to Canadians and their MPs, but also to the Parliamentary Budget Officer.
The PBO has been in an ongoing battle with the government, trying to obtain details on the budget cuts. He has issued two separate calls to 82 departments and agencies for details of their spending cuts, but has only received responses from 18.
Yesterday, a legal opinion backed the PBO, stating that the government was violating its own Federal Accountability Act by refusing to hand over the requested information. Read the legal opinion here.
Peggy and New Democrats stand firmly behind the Parliamentary Budget Officer and will continue to hold the Conservative government to account for its lack of transparency.
